Raised by Rivers of Sawbridgeworth, England and named Rivers' Codlin. Recorded in 1892 in which year it received a First Class Certificate from the Royal Horticultural Society. Introduced in 1894. Name changed to Thomas Rivers, the raiser of the apple, in 1897. Fruits have firm, crisp, creamy yellow flesh with an acid flavour.
